If your board runs anything older, take this one — 1.4.6 fixes two input hangs around the two-player exit and the restart keys.

cartridges

The main firmware is the arcade — ten small games, one board. A cartridge is a different thing: one deep game as its own firmware, flashed the same way, swapped the way you swap a cart. Long games that save — you put the board down and pick the run back up.

The board’s own firmware, compiled for the browser — the same C, so what plays here is what runs on the board. Swap the cartridge to see what each build holds, then flash the one you want.

Keyboard: arrows · Z = A · X = B. Hold A+B a second to leave a game. Portrait games turn the screen, the way you turn the board.

how to install

  1. Unplug the board.
  2. Hold the BOOT button on the microcontroller and plug in usb-c while still holding it.
  3. The board appears as a usb drive named RPI-RP2. Let go of the button.
  4. Drag the .uf2 file onto that drive.
  5. The drive disappears on its own and the board restarts into the new firmware. Nothing else to do.
1Hold BOOT (the left button) 2USB C plug-in to your computer, while still holding the back of the board RPI-RP2 3A drive appears on the desktop the .uf2 RPI-RP2 4Drop the file onto it. It reboots on its own
The whole update, start to finish. Nothing here can brick the board — the bootloader lives in ROM, so a bad copy is always fixed by doing it again.

If the drive does not appear, the cable is the usual reason: some usb-c cables carry power only. Use one you know moves data.

games

BLOCKS
Falling blocks. ◀▶ move, A rotate, B hard drop
STACK
Time the sweeping block. A to drop — a clean landing scores more
FALL
Keep dropping through the gaps in the rising floor. ◀▶
JUMP
Height is the score. ◀▶, and the edges wrap around
BRICKS
Three lives. ◀▶ paddle, A serve
SNAKE
◀ turns left, ▶ turns right
PONG
One or two players, first to five. Bottom ◀/A, top B/▶
REACT
Two-player reaction duel, first to five. Alone, it times you instead
FLAP
A to flap, through the gaps
RUNNER
A jump, B duck. Ducking is how you get under the birds

keys

Hold A+B for a second to leave a game. PONG and REACT use A and B to play, so there you hold all four keys instead.

Leave the menu alone for thirty seconds and a logo screensaver takes over, so the display does not burn in.

Holding ◀+▶ while it boots starts assembly test mode — screen pattern, every button, the LED. A+B leaves it.
